當她在念這首詩的時候，可以說是帶著崇拜的心情在念著：

不過當時的我其實是聽不太懂的，也不懂這首詩的含義，再加上還有語言隔閡的問題，只要老師要點名讓底下的學生來念時，我就覺得很害怕，更何況還必須要解釋其中的意思，就算答錯也沒關係，因為老師要的是學生可以踴躍回答，其中裡面有一段，至今我還是無法明白，書裡面提到：「我的手中攥著金黃色的沙粒，“And I hold within my hand Grains of the golden sand —”」

“奇怪，我就不懂人的手為什麼可以抓住沙子，那沙子那麼細，人怎麼可能抓的住，我知道那只是一首詩，不需要那麼較真，但還是忍不住想質疑一下，這首詩想要表達的意思究竟是什麼，雖然老師說了那是一首情詩，但好像只是詩人為了宣泄自己的情緒而已。”

每當老師念到令她為之著迷的詩句時，她總會往點名簿上一看，接著就提出問題出來道：「Rhea, how do you say this sentence?
